About the event
Join us for a workshop on rain barrels!
Installing a rain barrel on your property is an easy way to save resources, save money, and help protect our watershed!
Rain barrels connect directly to your home’s gutter or downspout to capture and store rainwater that falls on your rooftop. The water you collect can then be used for things like watering your gardens and lawn.
Collecting and storing rainwater will also help reduce the volume of stormwater runoff coming from hard surfaces on your property, like rooftops and driveways, which in turn will help control flooding and moderate stream erosion. As you use the stored rainwater around your gardens and lawn, the water will instead absorb slowly into the ground and help replenish groundwater supplies. Another benefit of collecting rainwater is that it can help stop water from pooling around your foundation and keep your basement dry.
Ready to add a rain barrel to your property? Join our Land Specialist, Bethany O’Hagan, on Friday, October 13th at 3:30pm for a hands-on workshop to learn how to set up, install and maintain a rain barrel on your own property!
The workshop is free and open to the public and will be held at the Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy office at 71 East Fairmount Avenue in Lakewood. RSVPS are requested.
